Hey!
I’m Emma, and I am a 19 year old photographer, artist and creator.
“As artists we aim to live in a way in which we see the extraordinary hidden in the seemingly mundane. Then challenge ourselves to share what we see in a way that allows others a glimpse of this remarkable beauty.” -Rick Rubin
These are words that I live by. To view the simple things in life like water droplets on fresh cherries after washing them, or the peacefulness of a woman taking the sun in on the patio of a restaurant, and capturing this beauty in a way that other’s can appreciate.
Simple beauties in the world like these, fascinate and encourage me to keep creating, become inspired, and share my art. My favourite kinds of photographs and creations are those that share a message. My style is often to capture a specific aesthetic or dramatic story in which the unnoticeable details become visible. And my hope is that my photography can inspire viewers to be curious, appreciate the small things, and take what they need from the visual story in order to benefit themselves.
“Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” - Elliot Erwitt
My Story
My photography journey began at the start of quarantine when, like many people, I was baking tons. I started an instagram account called Time4Dessert, and began posting about the desserts I was making. When I began to follow other bakers and I wondered how their photos looked so much cleaner and better than mine, I dived into this new world of learning: food photography. There was so much to learn about it, and this was both exciting and overwhelming!
Through youtube videos, countless journals containing my learnings, a Vegan Baking Course run by The Happy Pear, an IPhone Food Photography course run by FoodtographySchool, reading emails and blog posts from other photographers, and hours and hours of practice… I feel as though I have learned tons about this topic. I truly could write essays upon essays on food photography.
Over the past few years, I have worked with Four All Ice Cream and have taken photos, learned recipe development, and learned more about creating video content. Photography is a topic that I am extremely passionate about and I love to share the tips that I have learned on social media and answer questions that others have about it as well.
I have always focused on my two passions; baking and photography, which made it difficult when finishing Grade 12 recently and having to choose between going to school for culinary arts or photography. Ultimately, I made the decision to go into photography at Sheridan, which I am absolutely thrilled about. While I was once known as Time4Dessert through my social media platforms, I am excited to be learning about several different types of photography, not only desserts. I’m hoping to discover new kinds of photos that I have not tried before, some I may enjoy, and others I may not, but either way it will be fun to try!
I’m looking forward to seeing how this new chapter of my life unfolds and where this photography journey takes me!
